You may have noticed that we’ve been a little quiet on the new instrument front over the past few months. It’s not cos we’ve forgotten you (how could we?!) but rather because the secret project we dangled in a mailshot a year or so ago is now coming close to fruition.
Watch out for more news very soon… 😉
THE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED. A winner will be decided by Mongo and informed in due course. Thank you all for playing!
Are we playing Price Is Right rules? Closest answer without going over wins? If so, I guess: A product! For sale, even! Releasing on May 14.
Since you teased about this secret project being non-musical in nature, I’ll hazard a second guess: A retro-computing software experience. Possibly a HyperCard-style interactive fiction or narrative simulation. That, or Mongo has finally uploaded your consciousness to a computer and this is a cry for help.
Oooh, I used to have *so* much fun with Hypercard back in the day…
Quick update as of 7th May: No-one has got it right yet. Marcus is perhaps closest so far, but even he is waaaay off target. So… everything still to play for!
Color me interested.
On May 14, so far so good… But maybe not… Now, since I’ve never won a competition like this before, in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever won any competition at all, don’t pay too much attention to my attempt…
I think it will be a post-apocalyptic text adventure where every command is translated into sound. Instead of ‘go north’ or ‘take object’, you sculpt noise, pressure, and silence—navigating a ruined world that doubles as a living instrument. Possibly even using typed input or MIDI-triggered commands to blur the line between language and performance, where the story isn’t told alongside the music—the story Ãs the music.
To be released 05/14/2026.
This is a Kontakt instrument/library (code name Dispersal) built around sampling and creatively abusing the audio hardware (Apple Sound Chip and internal speaker) of a real Macintosh SE/30. Say yes. Say yes. Say yes.
Whatever it is, we can expect Rhythmic Robot’s high-quality sampling coupled with their unique personality. Three cheers for The Professor, Mongo, and the end of the world as we know it! Much love for this company!
On May the Fourteenth Andrei Tarkovsky’s personal pump organ will be sampled for Kontakt.
I’m going with E-MU Emax workstation, *possibly* wrapped in a quirky prompt-based sound designer called Dispersal. Dropping on May 14.
Everyone has made a good guess, but obviously the new product will be a communicator that will enable us to speak to all the world leaders simultaneously as well as any UFO’s in the area. Well, providing they have their wrist translators activated that it. Release date: October 31, 2026
May 14th. Kontakt instrument, presented as a vintage computer-style application, built around buffer-based sound manipulation, with integrated multi-effect processing (filtering, degradation, spatial effects).
I think it’s gonna be Vintage computer Sound
So, here are the rules:
1) Guess what we’ll be releasing…
2) …and on what date.
3) Write a reply below telling us what and when, and when the time comes, Mongo will roll up his sleeves and pick a random winner from anyone who got the answer right. Or, if no-one got it right, just at random.
4) That is all. Good luck!
Some kind of super mario emulator and i think it’s coming may 14th.
You guys awesome
On May 14 a Full Sampling of a Apple Sound Chip or Mockingboard will be released.
